In my opinion, the most complete book at the moment is by Ingo Haarcke.
He lists a lot of Freikorps collar, sleeve and cap badges but I think that this area is "still opened"

I agree that this is the single most comprehensive reference to date. But, it is, as you say an open topic. I have pieces in my collection that I know 100% are Freikorps that he doesn't mention or illustrate.

I doubt that all Freikorps insignia will ever be conclusively identified, as much information was lost during the war which has resulted in ongoing research and speculation among scholars and just plain misinformation from a lot of dealers.

For a comprehensive history of the Freikorps and their campaigns, read Hitler's Heralds by Nigel Jones. It also contains emblems, number of members and uniform information for each Freikorps.
