    Heimwehr Danzig helmet

    Guys,

I'm not at all into this stuff and I'm not planning to, just posting this thread for a contact who is not a member here.

It's currently for sale on Ebay. Helmet and liner itself look good and match, doubts about the chinstrap. Offcourse it's all about the insignia.

Seller has been mentioned on this forum before resulting in mixed opinions but I would like to keep discussion on the piece itself please.

Hereby the pictures for quick review.

Well, not much reaction apparently although there should be some members in this section who have experience with this type of regalia?

I suppose the pictures weren't good enough either to give a solid opinion?

        Thanks for looking anyway

          Hi

There's nothing about the insignia itself that jumps out and says anything, either negative or positive.

The problem with this type of thing is that it's very easy to fake and make extremely believable.

All I can say is that in the pictures it looks like it could be authentic. That's about as far as anyone could go, without knowing provenance, etc.

Freikorps material is open to all kinds of spurious identifications and associations because the historical record is so incomplete and a lot of dealers are ill-informed and/or just make up garbage in order to turn something ordinary into something that will sell.

Personally, I would stay away from something like this unless you know where it came from and know the seller well.

Thanks for sharing your observations. I informed my contact about your reply.

As an addition, I think the liner is not before 1930? Please check that in the helmet forum. So it cannot be completely freicorps (if originally worn why replace a liner and keep the decals post 1930?), so at least the liner is probably replaced.

              Best regards,
              Michel
