    Schutztruppe Bug

Here's a photo, for a fellow member, of my 800 marked Schutztruppe Bug badge. Note--the blue enamel came out violet in the photo, for some odd reason.

      Erich,

A very handsome badge indeed...can you enlighten me as to its history? I've seen these before I'm sure but am curious as to who wore them and when...

      Cheers!

Thanks for posting your example, Erich. I wanted to have another example to compare with the one I recently acquired (put in the minimum bid and no one else even bid on the thing, so I got it for a decent price).

I think the enamel in the center disc is the same shade of 'lila' that we see in the flocking of higher quality 1914 EK1 cases. My example seems to be marked .900 instead of .800 ?

How come the luxury or 'vanity' pieces had the 'lila' enamel, whilst the issued pieces had a different color (black)? Anyone know? Was it merely an affectation one can encounter on other awards-for example the Tamara Cross of the Georgian Legion? As far as I know there was only one grade of the "Bug Star".

        Adam,

this Freikorps award was issued by K. v. Koppenfels, a leader of Unit C of the Baltic forces during Febuary of 1919 for participation in the struggle against the Bolshies.

Reverse. This one has the original backing plate.
