            So fake!

The originals were quite heavy construction like a hollow-back Imperial pilot's badge: manufactured in the same style as the Reinhardt Brigade sleeve badge.
The one I had in my collection many years ago appeared to be German silver (composite of nickel and silver), black lacquered in the middle. The bones should not be cut-out beside the skull and wreath, as in the fake.

They used to turn up from time to time and were considered one of the more common Freikorps badges. But, now all the genuine items are so scarce as more and more people have started collecting.

I forgot to mention a very critical point that the badge was actually brass with the German silver as a flashed finish over the surface of the badge. Given that these were likely issued once, worn a lot and are old, the silvering should be worn off and the brass showing through, at least on the highlights, The silver finish by this late date would be going quite matte and dull in spots.

Glistening Freikorps unit insignia of any kind with clean, almost new surfaces should be avoided at all costs, in my opinion.
