    Augsburg Totenkopf Cross???

Does anyone have a clue what this is??

    I know what it ISN'T.

It isn't Freikorps, or a veteran award.

It's obviously 1920s/30s, fairly crudely made, unofficial, with an old piece of 1914 EK2 ribbon in the Austrian style attached.

    But what is it??

    Could it be Masonic??

    Or a Fasching 'carnival' piece??

The inscription appears to refer to something to do with central Augsburg, and the maker's ticket on the back is also from Augsburg.

    Anyone any ideas??

    Here's the front.

        S. w. J.

Could be an artist association (Künstlerverein).
        S. w. J. would then mean "Sicher wie Jold". They usually look like awards, the death head is a favorite motive. Could be for circus artists performing dangerous exercises.

          Gilles.

          Many thanks.

That's interesting - especially the 'SwJ' bit.

I did a Google search on 'Sicher wie Jold' and was amazed at what came up. It's a performing arts agency, as you suggested.

Something else I've learned, and just goes to show how valuable this forum is for all sorts of things.

          Best regards,

          Robin.

            Denis.

The ribbon's been dyed. but looks like an old piece of EK2 to me.

            Regards,

            Robin.

              SWJ!

Until today many people know nothing about the SWJ and describe such pieces as Freikorps items in auctions.

It is always the same problem....the skull.
