    Need Info on Afrika Medal

I bought this medal recently. I was told it was issued by Bavaria in 1922, although I can't find any info to verify this. Can anyone help? Who issued it and when?
Also, how many (official) Imperial medals are there with a reference to Afrika or other Kolonies? I know of the SW Afrika medal with Germania on the obverse, this one, and a pinback with an elephant on it. Any others? Thanks, Ammersee

this is a medal from the Deutsche Kolonialkriegerbund which is a private club -so this medal is not an official German award.

The bronce version could be given to non - combatants who helped in the German colonies or even to Germans who supported the colonial war at home in Germany.

It is named "Löwenorden" (Lions award)

Right, also awarded in a pin-back version in silver. They all have the inscription "In Memorium" on the reverse. The second class seems harder to find than the first, although they are all fairly scarce, especially on a mounted group. Also, the ribbon on your example is incorrect.

          Correct VtwinVince!
The ribbon is incorrect. It should have the colors:

          gold - white - red - blue - gold.

Well, so much for the "Bavarian origin" in 1922, and also the length of "original ribbon". Almost everything they told me were lies.

Once again, the members of this forum come through with the *true* facts.
I really appreciate that since I'm a junior member and new collector.

Now that I know the German name of this decoration and the color of the correct ribbon I now order a length. The correct ribbon sounds much more colorful than this drab tan and black piece. That ribbon is now in a cigar box of other obsolete items. Thanks again...Ammersee
