    Löwen Orden (colonial), Weimar era

    Dear Imperialoids,

My brother last purchase (ex-Carsten Baldes). It's a so called "Löwen-Orden" given for commemorative reasons (I believe). The Orden & Ehrenzeichen Katalog of Nimmergut doesn't list it.

I would really appreciated any comments on it and please feel free to post your Löwen-Orden for sharing and comparison.

    Ciao,

    Claudio

Although it is a similar shape and size, it isn't alas official like that ugly "Elephant Order," so not in Nimmergut.

It also came as a medal bar version. Here is the 15mm lapel bow and ribbon bar ribbon, as worn during the "anything goes" Weimar Republic.

The yellow edges presumably stand for the tropical sun, while the tricolor represents the Schutztruppen tunic edgings colony colors:

    medium blue (Southwest Africa)

    red (Cameroon) and

    white (East Africa)

          I think I can...

.. count on one hand the number of times I've seen the "Lion Order" mounted on a bar... very nice!

Hello Christian, thanks for the comment. The bar actually belongs to me, mravery is very kind to post photos for me as I am not of the computer world. When I first picked up the bar, I was unaware what the campaign bar stood for, only later research gave me insight. It's one of the favorite colonial groups in my collection.

but you say, its one of your favourite colonial bars - where are the others ?

do you especially collect colonial pieces?
do you have some you do not "need"?

Hello Christian, I do collect German colonial items as well as anything else from the Second Reich that I can find correct and not too expensive! I listed a thread on a colonial uniform from SWA with a very nice cloth IC type award. Perhaps we can do a couple of threads on our colonial goodies. Good hunting.

                            Löwen-Orden (Philipp)

I just wanted to show you a Löwen-Orden being on the online catalogue of the German dealer Philipp. As you can see this is made of another alloy (Buntmetall).

                            Ciao,
