    Schlesischer Adler in Polish?

If this is not the right forum for this thread then please feel free to move it elsewhere...anyone know if this is original pre-1945 or if it is a new phantasy piece? What is it? I assume that the O Slask is Polish for For Silesia? It is larger than the Freikorps Schlesischer Adler 1st class badge. Screwback. Applications are rivetted on. Thank you for your help. Cheers, Torsten.

Yes, Slask is Polish for Silesia. I seem to remember reading about this variation somewhere but I cant find the source for the life of me.

There is a fantasy badge of this exact design/colour with the 'Fur Schlesien' legend which you see offered as agenuine Silesian eagle. It was based on an original Polish badge although I have never seen one, so yours could well be original.

            congrats!

You have a Polish Silesian Eagle from the 'other' side of the 1919 Silesian "troubles".
Rather rare as the Nazis weren't fond of seeing them and just having one sometimes got one sent to a camp if the Gestapo searched your house.
This 'White Eagle" version was issued around 1921-22 in Warsaw by the GKPGS ("Central Assitance Committee for Upper Silesia"). It was a merit medal-awarded for "aid and merit in the struggle to secure Silesia for Mother Poland".
Photos of it in wear are uncommon, but not overly rare.
Nice piece and like all pre 1939 Polish pieces-rarer than hens teeth. Quite valuable too.

Terry, I am a little bit confused as to why you posted the link?? This could easily create the impression with some people that I was trying to advertise the eagle to taunt for business....which of course I was not. I put it up for discussion, because I did not know what it was. Cheers, Torsten.

In view of some of the comments above, I thought some people here may be interested to see it is for sale and may want a chance to bid for it.

Hi Terry, I am sure you know what I meant about the taunting for business thing on the forum...some people are very touchy about commercialisation of the forum and I just did not want anyone to think that this was my intention when posting this eagle for discussion...it really was not...Cheers, Torsten.
