I have a question regarding the subdued boards worn by officers of general rank on their field jackets: were the rank pips and buttons on the boards the same as those worn by all other officers?

No, there are Special grey ones for Generals.

I have not had any success in finding any original photos of NVA officers of General rank wearing these field jackets.

General Strichtarn Jackets

An earlier version with Shoulder Boards.

The Trousers and Jackets are special made for General officers and lack arm pockets, have a synthetic lining and large clear plastic buttons in the neck for collar liners. This also shows the Board and Pip type.

NVA Generals Field Uniform's update

Here's an addition to the NVA Generals Rain Camo thread..


Another "Special Clothing Depot" item manufactured specifically for NVA Generals...

"Feldienstanzug Gen. Winter" Strichtarn set... Sized g52 and made in the 1st qtr of 1982 "I"
The set is very well made with attention to detail in the sewing, Lacks upper arm pockets and a few other minor differences. The Trousers also have minor differences such as a closing "Tab" at the waist.
This is an example of an item that I had often wondered if it existed or not.. Lucky enough to stumble onto it a few months ago in Germany.

Apology in advance about the size of these photo's.. They were reduced several times but still came out the size of a house.
