do you have any Soviet Computer memorabilia? actually, do you know if the Soviet Union did produce any computer equipment or any micro processors for themselves?? I am not sure they did, but I don't know?? Cheers, Torsten.

No, I have kept my collecting to strictly military items and indeed largely avoid the "technik" as its a bit of a slippery slope.

One of my Comrades however has all sorts of electronic bits and pieces - more his game than mine!

The Soviets did produce some microprocessor computing devices towards the end - prior to that they just aquired it through shell companies from the West ;-)

Bringing the DDR computer thread back to life I have just found something interesting which any of you old school computer geeks might like to read... the GDR was a big Atari user!

          http://www.stcarchiv.de/stc1990/07_atariddr.php

I found this as the Atari ST used to be one of the things I used to write things on and this weekend I have been doing some nostalgia on the internet and found mention of this site... absolutely fascinating (well to me!)

It's quite apparent that the "iron curtain" wasn't quite as rigid as maybe some of us thought.

Anyway, hope some of you find this as interesting as I did!

I did not think that that many had been sold in the DDR?? ... and since I did not have any DM or forum checks, I hardly ever went in the Intershop and so, did not even know they were for sale there ...but I guy in my class at school in 1985-87 had a 520 ... we did play a couple of games on it from time to time, but that was about it ... very simple games of course .. ;-)

            Cheers, Torsten.

Well if he had a 520 in 85-87 he was doing well - I didn't get mine until 88!!

Which I think is an interesting East-West perspective...

I have no idea where he got it from to be honest and I had never seen another anywhere .... I went to school with him in 85-87, but I cannot remember when he first got it...probably was in 1987 I guess? Cheers, Torsten.

Torsten - Does the color of the book indicate anything?

it signifies that a higher level of security, usually VVS or higher, was required for those wanting to use and read the manual. Cheers, Torsten.

Hey Torsten - Thanks for the follow up...interesting. Was this color associated with the NVA? The reason I ask is that I have seen different colors especially the use of strips used by the MfS.

Ralph, I don't know the answer to that one. Can you show an example of what you mean by the strips that the Stasi used? Cheers, Torsten.
