    Staff Service Uniform

Keubke and Kunze discuss the introduction of the officer staff service uniform in the early 1970s where trousers would be worn instead of breeches. But they don't mention if these trousers were piped or un-piped. Now the officer service tunic would have been un-piped. So I'm wondering, did they also introduce un-piped trousers or were piped ones worn? Has anyone seen un-piped officer trousers?

I had 100's of straight Officers Trousers and not a single one without Piping.

Unpiped trousers of officer quality (gabardine) material did exist. They were worn by EM and non-career NCO ranks of the Wachregimenter and are pretty tough to find.

Piped trousers were worn by officers and career NCO's.

The Staff Service uniform for officers consisted of a piped tunic with service collar tabs worn with piped trousers. A gray shirt was worn under the tunic, in contrast to Parade/Walking Out dress which required a white shirt. No belt was worn for Staff Service.

Sorry but that is not 100percent right. For this uniform type regulary an non Piped tunic and an piped long trouser was used, so it is also an Service uniform type. But many officers used an piped, old Parade tunic with pipes also for service. Sometimes with service tabs, sometimes also with the handembroidered tabs but without cuff tabs.
