The revelation by SCHUPO that the Zoll was not integrated into the MdI was certainly an eye opener for me. If you hadn't initiated this thread, I might not have ever known this. I now know and won't soon forget. It's always neat to learn something new.

Happy to have been of service! Don't remove your cap from your display yet, the Zoll has been a German law enforcement agency for quite a while and they work very closely with the regular police. They are just not an organ of the Ministry of the Interior. You might think of them in the same way as the US Customs Service. Also a law enforcement agency but they are an agency of the US Treasury Department.

Good, your tunic is not MdI marked (as I would expect) but is certainly made of dederon (the East German name for German perlon or rayon in English) according to the markings. I see it is also half lined as could be expected of an enlisted tunic. A very nice paper tag as well!

I have sent Michael a photo of an example of a Zoll Schiffchen that would be correct for your tunic. I cannot see a clear photo of Michael's peaked cap to see if it is Zoll or not. A proper Zoll Schirmmütze should have a grey band with green piping and either a grey or white top with green cap cords for enlisted Zollschutz. Zoll officer's caps have the aluminum cap cords and the larger wreath as shown in the example of the summer weight peaked cap shown with the officer uniform above.

I have two Zoll Peaked Hats - One officer like the one you posted, and the other an NCO hat, which I posted. The color is off, giving the hat a blue hue, due to auxilliary lighting. I noticed the same thing apparently occurred to the Cappi pic you sent me. I went back and effected a color adjustment on my pic, and did the same relative to your Cappi photo. My original question was if the hat I posted would have been appropriate for wear with the Tunic Mike C. posted.

Here are a few more Zoll photos for you, along with more information about this unique organization to the DDR.

Zoll side cap (Schiffchen) of Zoll grey Kammgarn with green piping. This cap would be perfectly proper for either the grey Zoll Felduniform or the Camo FDU.

Zoll Strichtarn Felddienstuniform. This uniform is similar to the NVA and the MdI FDU but is distinguished by the "ZOLL" markings and the lack of provisions for insignia or shoulderboards. The tunic and trousers are the standard "old style" FDU with exposed grey plastic pebbled buttons on the sleeve and side trouser pockets. The distinguishing feature seems to be that there are no provisions for shoulder boards on this camo uniform. Several of these Zoll uniforms are known and some have Customs shoulder boards sewn onto the shoulders but none have shoulder board loops or holes for shoulder board buttons.

I am particularly interested in, and fascinated by, the presence of an actual "ZOLL" Stamp inside of the Camo Tunic. Most profound.

Thanks for posting the photos. I hope they are of interest.

The answer to your question is yes, the Zoll NCO peaked cap you posted could be correctly worn with Mike's Zoll tunic. Since this is a summer weight tunic the Zoll peaked cap with a white top could also be worn with this tunic. The peaked caps would not be worn with the camo.
