    Infanterie NCO schoulderstraps

    Hi guys,

What do you think of these straps? They came with a wartime german M40 combat-tunic.
I posted them in the ww2 german uniform-section to get some opinions, and they turned out to be possibly early post-war german. Here's the link to the first thread :

If they are indeed early post-war, which army, which time-frame?

    Any help is highly appriciated!

    Cheers

Hey Jan...sorry I can not assist you on this right now...I hope someone steps out of the wood work with the answer you are needing about the boards. I for sure would like to know since I have not seen these NVA boards like the one you are showing with those type of straps on the back...

          Jan,

The NVA appeared Spring of 1956. I have some Tunics that I can date back to 1958, and several more from the very early 60s. I've never before seen NVA Shoulder Boards like the ones you have.

Thanks guys, well maybe not NVA, but at least early East-German maybe?
As Albert stated in the other thread ; the tresse are definatly post-war.
Either this is just a good fake, but then why not using original tresse?

            Cheers

Interesting note, please tell me why...there must be something, apart from the tresse,no? What about the stitchings, the button-hole, the cloth, the backing,etc...I'm here to learn

                Thanks in advance

                Cheers

Hey Jan...I like what you said...I'm here to learn...because I too am about to learn (I hope) more about your boards. So as I fumble along with my post, I hope I do not confuse you or anybody else reading this...And please anyone step in if I say anything wrong.

What is interesting about your boards on the front side is that neither of the silver stripes go all the way down your boards. The NVA boards I have seen in the past go all the way down past the edges. Also I have never seen any straps the way yours is being displayed on the back of the boards. Straps I have seen have been usually a thin peice of cloth on the back of the board. Also the straps on the NVA boards are not as wide as yours is showing and I have not seen a tunic YET that could use those boards you are shoowing (again not yet seen one, which does not mean there is not one out there). BUT your board's color by itself without the number on it matches one of the NVA boards which at this time slips my memory.

Olivier does bring up a good point that the boards could be Bundeswehr and if that is the case you may want to do some search/research about the West German boards.

Again...not sure if I have helped or confused this thread anymore.

                    Hi Ralph

thanks for the following-up. Maybe they were originally post-war ( NVA, BW,...), which have been altered by some artist to "look" like ww2, or maybe I'm searching it to far, and is it a total fake...

I will surely do some research about West German Boards, starting by browsing this section...but give me some time as I know zero about post-war german militaria.

Thanks again and already my best wishes for the new year!

                    Cheers

Hey Jan...let me say this...when you find out any additional information to your boards, could you please post a reply so I and others can learn more about what you find out. Thanks and wish you all the best in your research and thanks for the wishes too. Ralph...

In my assessement, these boards are not similar to WWII Werhmacht, Post WWII Bundeswehr or NVA.

Not to throw a "Monkey Wrench" into the equation, but there is another possibility.....

although grey in color, these Boards might in fact not even be German.

You know this is sometimes something difficult to explain... just an impression that comes out from all your past experience... I live next to the German border and served in the Eurocorps with German soldiers, I 1st started collecting German WWII stuff and visited many Waffenbörsen in my place where German and French collector mix up... this is why your straps do not leave me voiceless... bundeswehr is the 1st idea that immediately came into my mind... I am intimately convinced they are.... but cannot guarantee it, sorry...

                            Good morning Jan,
They are not BW, sorry. Send them back if you can.
                            All my best,

Well, thanks to all of you for the great help both here and in the ww2-section. I'll contact the seller and if any news I'll post it here. Like I stated before, these came with a M40 tunic, which is good all the way.

Not BW, not NVA, not WW2, maybe not german at all...One thing I'm sure of, is that these are not good, to much questions have raised by me in the meantime as well...

Kind regards and again my best wishes for 2005 to all of you
