        I realize this is an old thread. However, I have a question: A number of years ago I purchased two nice DDR M56 helmets from Bob Gowen. One is a 1958-dated one with the later liner. The other is a late one with a camo net. I can see no letters but only a number "3" stamped in the proper location inside. Am I not seeing more that has been painted over? If so, I sure can't find it!

        I have been primarily a TR collector over the years but picked these up due to the history of their late war testing, development and limited issuance by the Wehrmacht. They are actually quite fascinating helmets!
