Is there really a need to compare this helmet?
It is so bad, that Fry and Haensel would turn around in their graves...
Honecker would sentence the man to 20 years of arrest in Bautzen for destroying NVA-equipment and making a fool of the republic...!

By the way:
I´ve read Baer again.
1.After the Polish campaign in OCT 1939, polish and other foreign helmets, for example a british and the M35 were ballistic tested.
2.After that tests, the prototyp program started.
Fry developed model A and model C. Haensel only developed model B and upgraded it to B/II.
Once again you must see, M35 was already tested together with foreign helmets. No need to test it again. Baer always talks about ballistic tests, you know!
But there´s no need to discuss any longer, like Michael said, model A isn´t really interesting.
And Michael:
Thank you for reinforcing my arguments about model A! You wrote, what I thought, but I wasn´t able to find the right words.
Now I know, there are no more Fry-prototypes as I speculated.
But there still could be more B/II prototypes...
There could be a Volklingen B/II v.1, Volklingen B/II v.2,... and so on. A few steps would have been needed to design the B/II as we know from Baer book!
After the B/II production went from Volklingen to Thale, Thale could not immediately start production of 50 prototypes, there must also have been some test helmets, maybe with slightly modifications again (visor, rim, etc.).
A turned rim like the Radovic helmet or the later M56 is easier to produce, Baer tells. (can be stamped and cutted in one step).
So why the B/II has none?
This is an interesting question for me!

Thats a nice view of the different helmet profiles! A very handy aid to compare angles and rivet placement!
As to the rather unknown Model A helmet - I had always thought it would have resembled an M54 helmet, only because of the idea to get rid of the inward curves of the M35 helmet. Do this to an M35 helmet and it will resemble something like the m54 helmet. But this is just a wild guess. It would be interesting to see the stamping dies of the regular m35 helmet...but I am almost positive none of them would resemble a germanic helmet, m54 or otherwise.
Well it would be nice if more period photos would come to light. Surely there are some. somewhere, sitting in some archive..
