    Feuerwehr Fire Fighter Officer tunic

    Hi all

I have just received a Feuerwehr Fire Fighter Officer tunic today in the post. which is great and nicely marked with all VEB labels. however the buttons on them are flat silver is this right?

I know this is an odd question but i have never dealt with feuerwehr kit before and just want to make they have not been swapped or wrong ones added.

Can you post photos of the tunic & buttons?

Not sure what you mean by "flat silver". Are you referring to the color or the shape of the buttons?

If the buttons look odd it could be because it's an early tunic from the 50s or early 60s when things weren't as standardized as in later years.

If you can post a close up of the collar tabs, it may be possible to get an idea of the time period from the braiding around the base.

I have seen those flat smooth buttons on many Volunteer Firefighter's uniforms, mostly female. I have also seen them in a few of the VOPO coffee table photo books also.

I know them only from the Volunteers but not from the Professionals. They have to use the authorized, pebbled one with the flat Ring around.

I will see if my camera works (hopefully and get pics)

they are a highly polished silver button which is flat and exactly the same size as a tunic button should be.

when looking at the stitching holding the button in place it looks like it has age and no marks of being replaced. however the buttons on the shoulderboards are the standard type with the ring and pebbling

          will try and get pics.

Also the mentioning of VEB LAbels let me think it's for Civy Fire Vols.

It is a Freiwillige Feuerwehr Uniform (voluntary fire fighters). You can see an FFW officer uniform with these flat silver buttons here http://www.germandotmilitaria.com/en...st+German,+DDR Cheers, Torsten.
