Winter hat question

Hi all,

Here are a couple pictures of NVA enlisted men wearing the winter hat with dienstuniform, but WITHOUT the wintercoat.


My question is...did they ever do that with Ausgangsuniform or Stabsdienstuniform? (My question applies to both EM/NCO and officers.)

I'm wondering because the surplus store has an Army EM tunic in my size with cuff bars that I want, but I can never find the appropriate visor cap in my size. Gowen has the EM winter hat in my size so I'm considering using that hat instead, but ONLY if that combination was really done in the NVA.

Oh, and another question...Were there any circumstances where one would NOT wear a hat with Ausgangsuniform? Say I wore the Landstreitkrafte Soldat Ausgangsuniform I mentioned earlier, but with no hat. Was that ever done?

During the winterperiod, the timeframe was spezified in the Dienstvorschrift, the Wintercap had to be worn.
If the NVA-member not wore the outgoing or the Dienstuniform, both was with greatcoat/Wintercoat, we wore the just the wintercap even inside the barracks etc.Till 1990 it was not allowed to wear the visorhat during the winterperiod. Inside of buildings/barracks it was allowed to wear the Dienstuniform without the greatcoat.
Just while leaving the barracks or while doing the servicerounds during UvD or OvD (etc.) -service the complete uniform 8(incl. greatcoat was worn).
At least that was my experiances during my service in AR-11 and at the OHS...

Most of the time we were just wearing the normal Dienstuniform without the coat or with the padded BDU over it.
Please remember to wear the webbed belt with this uniform not the black one.
The various possible combinations can be found in Handbuch militaerisches Grundwissen.Mine is 15th edition, 1986, pages 199/200.

I don't think I would wear this uniform voluntarily in summer!
