    Meisterflieger or loser-flieger?

Ok, gents, I have since before one Klassifizierungsspange fur Meisterflieger which is the 1990 version pictured in the Bartels band nr 2. With the hanger pins removed. I know that already but I got that one cheap as I took a chance for a poorly pictured lot. Other items was worth it.

Today I got another Meister qualispange that I bought together with a nice early Bestenabzeichen NVA (enameled, screw back). Both for a decent price. That can happen sometimes. But did I get lucky on the M? or not...?

So when I got the M in my hands I got slightly worried. On the reverse of the M there is a slight misshape (dent or hit or? - from a side view it has a slight dent) and the area is a bit dark. Just as there might have been a possible removal of pins... or not...

This issue I would like som help with if you do not mind. There is few references to the early 1986 Meister spange availble. Not much posted here that would help and the Bartels pics are small. The Bartels pics tells however clearly that my first M was a 1990. It matches perfectly to the one in the book, just less the pins.

The M spange I got today: It is nice looking but what worries me is the strange traits I mentioned above and also a slight green hue to the blue paint under the poly coating. That could be a variation and ok. The white area of the M of todays mail is really white because it lacks the poly coating, which my first 1990 M spange has. Nico mentioned a difference in the attachment of the screws. My new M spange has more of soldering than my first M spange (which can be seen for the 1990 M spange in Bartels book nr 2)

I would be greatful for advice and I will show some pictures. Anyone care to share their 1986 M spange and what it looks like, especially the reverse? If you dont want to post in open a PM is ok. The Bestenabzeichen I just post for fun because it is a really nice one.

Pictured from top to bottom is (for comparison purposes):

    1 - Grentruppen, magnetic
    2 - Meister 1990 with removed pins
    3 - Meister that I got today
    4 - Pilot with hanger (3500)
    5 - Pilot without hanger

Cheers and please fire your comments

Ok, and a last close up of the reverse of the M.

        Top - 1990 M spange
Bottom - The one M spange I got today

Ok, with the extreme close up it seems hardly like it had any pins, more towards a dent and a bit dark... Or?

As a side note, I just checked around 70 of the 1986 qualispanges (of a total around 90) that I own and none has a total 100% poly cover of the lower number or the M. Except the M spange of 1990. Two out of 70 has a slight drop of the poly cover, out of one is 25 % and the other is around 60 %. My previous M spange has a poly cover of 100 % for the M as comparison.

To add futher none of the 1986 spanges in Bartels Band 2 has a poly cover of the lower number or the M (as from what I can see).

          Just an observation

Thanks Uwe for the link. It was good to see examples of a known original and the 1990 version as well. Your middle example is interesting. Reminding me of the questions partly about the one I just got in.

The placement of the screws is not something I have noticed before. I cant really say how important that is as I feel there is a natural variation as well, though most are places rather high.

Thanks for the input, much appreciated.

              Any more comments or examples?

              Cheers
