    Camo Uniform Help! Please!

Been doing searches but no answer's and dont want Genosse Viktor sending the "Staff Car"!

On the Camo uniforms i wonder as the correct procedures?

What was worn under the Camo shirt? A plain white T-Shirt or a Camo or green one? Also on the shirts they all have buttons inside on the collars, i know they were for a Hood in the early days but later were they used for the collar inserts?

    Vielen Dank!

NVA underwear is white and has a deep collar opening, so it is not visible at all underneath the Strichtarn:

The buttons you refer to were used for the collar liner (Kragenbinde)

These are the same for all NVA uniforms and would have been buttoned into the collar of Steingrau uniforms too (depending on period and rank)
Notice that only the Kragenbinde is visible at his collar:

What about the olive-grey T-Shirts I have. Who used them?
BTW: they're original Period Items and not Miltec.

they are certainly phantasy items. Actually, you could wear whatever you liked under the camo jackets ... unless, you were on guard duty. As long as whatever you were wearing was not on show then it could be your favourite Mickey Mouse t-shirt or whatever, but usually, I would have worn the NVA underwear long sleeve shirts, as they were quite comfortable. Kragenbinde is a MUST. You were not allowed to ever wear the camo jackets without the Kragenbinde buttoned in.

          Cheers, Torsten.

Makes some sense as I got them with 800 Officers Uniforms and 100 Mig-Mechanics Suits ( As shown on the Forum)

A couple of quick questions about the kragenbinde:
                1. The ones I have seem a lot longer than needed and have no button holes. Should they be shortened or worn as is and who normally put the button holes in them?
                2. Which way out were they normally worn? With the grey side towards the neck or the white side? Or did that change depnding on whether it was with field or service uniform?
                Cheers,
(Just noticed I spelt kragenbinde correctly from memory. Must be starting to get to be an old hand at this now. Small things amusing small minds, etc.)

Edit: And then I looked down at the one on my lap and lo! I realised could see a spot of white through the grey and my mind was opened. There are holes in it for buttons, the grey side buttons to the uniform, white side to neck.

Amazing how helpful this forum can be, sometimes before anyone even gets a chance to answer.
                Cheers,

Well, on my winter UTV pattern jacket the buttons are there for the included fur collar. Would I also need to insert a kragenbinde here as well?

Just checked with one of mine and they will fit even with the fur collar attached. That and the fact they were one thing that there were always multiples of in the stumgepack regardless of season leads me to believe you are correct in your supposition.
However I'll leave it to someone more experienced than I confirm 100%.

Kragenbinde always had to be worn with the Felddienst Uniforms ... winter, summer, with or without fur collar ... always! No exception! Gray side buttoned in, white side to the skin ... Cheers, Torsten.

Thanks for that, Torsten. So, they were only worn with the field dress, not the service dress?
                          Cheers,

Now that these World-Wide Uniform infractions have been discovered, i am suprised nobody has asked as to is up and what is down when putting these on!

Since 1 edge is sewn shut and the other edge is not sewn together at all!

In all Uniforms with buttons in the Collar, so also in the Dark Collar Tunics where you don't see the Shirt.
