    Some spanges

    Hello gents!

Just got a small group of spanges in the mail today. Of course what interested me was the VVO Ehrenspange. I never had one of the these nor have I seen in real life. I have to say I am impressed by this little massive Ehrenspange which is made with quality. Quite heavy for its size.

I also got some other interimsspanges or ribbon bars. Quite a few singles that is good to have when you buy medals without the interimsspange. (which happens rather often on ebay) Also got a double hanger for VVO in silver and bronze which seems not finished or perhaps meant for stitching on? One interesting interimsspange is with VVO in bronze and cloth ribbons for Verdienstmedaille in gold and what appears to be for the Hans-Beimler medal. The strange triangular pice I have no clue about but I think its not DDR related.

BTW there is not too much posted on the VVO Ehrenspange on this DDR forum. I am sure many has a few goodies around.

Now I hunt for a case for the Ehrenspange...

    Cheers

      Ehrenspange VVO.
The "diamonds" looks not so shiny but thats just the photo. They are clear in real life. What the dirt is I cant say. Perhaps it is possible to wash it of? Will perhaps try in a gentle way or leave it as it is.

      Cheers

That group of spangen is awesome Felix!
The VVO Ehrenspange has been on my "shopping list" for 2 years now, and your example look great!
You can always try simply warm water and maybe a little soap on the dirt. A cotton bud would work just fine. As long as you don´t leave any soap, and dry it well afterwards of course!

Felix - You peaked my interest with your VVO spange. You for sure don't see to many of these on the forum.

when time permits can you zoom in closer of the front and back of the VVO spange. Thanks...

Now, I am going to continue my quest at looking at the other items in your thread. :-)

Felix - I would like to ask you a question about the two VVOs. On the back of the VVOs there is no pin back on either one. Does the screw holes show a thread?

                  Hello Ralph!

Here are better close ups of the Ehrenspange is that was what you wanted?

As for the two VVO spange, yes all holes have threads.

                  Cheers

The reason for the absence of pin fasteners on the back of the two VVOs, is that they were originally part of a medal bar. Look closely.

Felix - Thanks for the close up photos of your spange medal. I have posted another variant of the medal so you can see the difference between the two. I think at the moment your spange was awarded between the 1970s and 1980s.

Also thanks for follow up about the threads being seen in the two VVOs.

Yes I think mine is Bartels version C.

Felix - You are welcome. The spange I posted in your thread was presented to a former MfS officer in 1977.
