Sensationalism attracts viewers, Kevin. I don't suppose the Germans are any more immune to this sort of modern infotainment than we are. The funky clownish background music that accompanied the living history segment is a bit over the top though, I have to admit.
I am particularly intrigued by the tragic post-script to the Rudi Arnstadt tale. I only learned of Arnstadt's story thanks to some links to historical Grenztruppen videos that people posted here in the past, but never realized that the narrative didn't just end with Arnstadt's 'martyrdom'. Even though this is all old news by now, it is nevertheless news to me; for that I'm grateful to oberst40 for the link.

It was made as a mainstream TV programme and so, of course there is going to be a little sensationalism and anti-DDR propaganda and this is not going to be an indepth analysis of the psychological impact of every single person effected by the demise of the NVA ... that is to be expected and normal for these types of programmes anywhere in the world. However, it was certainly still interesting and covered quite a wide variety of subjects without going into intricate detail on any particular items. They possibly tried to cover too many different aspects of the subject and I think the programme could have done with a little more focus on certain bits .,... but overall, it is interesting to watch. Cheers, Torsten.
