NVA Rain Pattern AK 47 Pouch w/ D ring

I was digging thru some AK47 Mag Pouches today and saw something interesting.
Two of the pouches in rainpattern had D--Rings built into them at the top so you could attach the Y straps to them.

Does anyone have any information on these?

Searched the forum but no luck.

The first pattern einstrich camo pouches were exact copy of the 2 mag/3 mag set in flächentarn. Then they went to the 4 mag as you have. The belt loops were canted and had the d-ring to support the old type y-strap hooks. All the webbing was cotton and rivets on front straps, then later to nylon, then the d-ring was eliminated and the belt loops were leveled so the pouch opening was parallel to the belt when the newer y-straps were introduced. Hope that makes sense.

Here are the early ones you're talking about. First type stricktarn on top and flächentarn set on the bottom. I have three but still need the 2 pocket stircktarn type. I think these are Victor photos from a while ago...

Here are some later type ones, with differing strap configurations...

Went back and picked up the pouch and found a belt and buckle; a little different than what I have seen before.

In case I forget; thanks to all who are making this a very interesting thread.

Any way to attach dates to these pouch patterns?

I have not "field tested" the pouch with the ring, but it seems that it may be a bit
more comfortable for marches than the later version which I have used in the field.

Can anyone tell us anything about the belt? This is the first leather and webbing one I have ever owned.

Perhaps we could also open it up to early bread bags, canteens and grenade carriers. I will throw up a few pictures of the ones I have.

                Thanks,

                Timo

That is a very interesting belt and not a standard issue item. It would be a privately made item or "fantasy" peice. But to back up the private made theory...when I worked on Fort Knox years ago with the Bundeswehr Liason SGM, he had a standard issue green field belt modified in the same way to use the shiney silver buckle from the Bundeswehr black dress belt.

                      Really? Thanks

I was figuring it was simply an early design.
