for comparison here is my 'Kunstleder' artificial leather covered Vopo cap. The artificial leather was placed over top of a common Vopo green felt cap. So it is quite unlike Torsten's cap.

there are at least two types of 'Kunstleder' artificial leather covered caps and also a 'Stoffbezug' cloth cover version . Zollers book only shows two of the three types, on pages 132 & 133, images Abb. 105b (Torsten's cap) and Abb. 105c. (the 'Stoffbezug' cap).

        myddrcaps,

If I understand this discussion correctly, your cap is a standard green VOPO cap with a layer of artificial leather sewn over it-IE Abb. 105 b. Torstens cap is a standard white VOPO cap with an artificial leather like substance applied to the material (painted on?) IE Abb 105 c. Your cap looks just like the one in Zoller's book so what does the other type of artificial leather women's VOPO cap look like? How does it differ from the one you pictured from your collection?

        Torsten,

Here are a couple of pictures that show what may be this type of Kunstleder cap in wear. Zoller does say that white hats in kunstleder and felt were used by the VOPO Verkehrspolizei.

        Regards,

        Gordon

Torsten's 'Kunstleder' cap is the one pictured in Abb. 105b, and Abb. 105c. is the 'Stoffbezug' cloth covered cap, it is the cloth covered type that we do not have an example of in this thread.

Mine is another example of a 'Kunstleder' artificial leather covered Vopo cap. The construction of mine is totally different from those two hats in zollers book.

What year would you say those photos are from?

The photos could be 70s or 80s. Difficult to say really, but I think it most likely that they are late 1970s. Cheers, Torsten.
