    female Volkspolizei cap?

I think that this is an early (1960s or 1950s?) female Volkspolizei cap. It came with the cap badge shown in the pic, which is the same as an NVA officer one ... is this the correct badge for this cap? Has anyone got photos of this type of cap in wear? Cheers, Torsten.

looks like the same cap as this one from Zoller's Kopfbedeckungen book, page 132. It has the right badge and from 1962 or after.

Is it in need of a home??

        thank you for that ...

There are no markings or size inside of the cap. Did these just come in one size fits all?

        Cheers, Torsten.

PS: You might want to check out my website updates from time to time ... especially the one I will be doing this Sunday

all the felt caps I have are different sizes, the size is the only markings on these, usually on a tab, but the tab is not always there, lost or pulled off...

here are a few of mine http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...hp?albumid=542

oops ... take it all back ... just noticed that there is a small label/tap with size 48 in the back of the cap

Impressive collection. I did not even know that there were this many different ones ... is number 8 the same one as mine? Cheers, Torsten.

#8 is a vopo cap, but is different from yours. #8 is made from a green felt cap that has an outer layer of fake white leather.

ah ok. that is different then. The one I have here has white felt inside. Eventhough, the artificial leather on mine is cracked allover, it is not fragile and is still quite flexible and soft. In the photos it looks like it is about to shatter into lots of little pieces .... Cheers, Torsten.

the majority of the female caps are made from a single piece of felt. In Zollers book there are only two that are stitched together, the leather cover type you have and a similar 'Stoffbezug' cloth cover version.

the one I have is not real leather, it is Kunstleder, i.e. artificial leather and the inside is white felt. Cheers, Torsten.

Interesting cap, though it has clearly seen much, much better days!

The artificial leather is cracked all over from bad storage, but is still pretty smooth and flexible. The cap itself looks like it is unworn/unissued. Cheers, Torsten.

                            Torsten,

I've never seen one of these hats in wear in pictures but then again I wasn't looking for one. There are lots of photos of VP women directing traffic and wearing this type of hat in white and I always assumed it was the felt one. Perhaps they were actually wearing the fake leather ones.
I know that this is common in the West German police visor caps for the traffic police and the fake leather on these hats deteriorates with time and perhaps that is what has happened to this cap. Looking forward to Sunday!

                            Regards,

                            Gordon

Thanks Gordon ... I guess, it would probably be near impossible to tell if somebody is wearing this cap in felt or Kunstleder from the usual black and white photos from the 60s ... I remember having seen photos with women wearing these types of white caps while directing traffic ... but can I find them again now ... Cheers, Torsten.
