Estate of an MfS officer, medals and documents

Hello everyone,
Here is another nice estate of an ex-MfS officer. He served in the MfS from 1952 until 1980 and was awarded the VVO in bronze after his retirement. His awards include a Verdienstmedaille of the customs authorities which could indicate that his job had something to do with customs, unless he just knew somebody there. He received the Verdienstmedaille of the DDR pretty early in 1965 signed by Stoph. But the real killer is that the Treue Dienste medals in silver, gold, gold XX years and Verdienstmedaille in silver and gold are all stamped 900!! Hope all pics are loaded, I am having problems sometimes to do this.

Awesome. Many times, servicemen and women of the DDR that began their career early, as this one did, traded their medals and orders in at some point for the newer versions. Unfortunate but all too common. This service member did not. Consequently, you have some very nice "Salty" medals and orders.

Do you have this gentleman's full history? I am curious what political or military affiliations he had prior to 1945. His date of birth places him available for military service, unless he served in a critical defence industry, fled to the Soviet Union or was incarcerated in Germany for anti-fascist activisim.

Harry - very nice MfS grouping you have added to your collection. And nice to read that you got a XX year medal stamped with a 900.

Sorry for the delay. I have found a person by the name of Metz. It might not be the same person since your Metz retired from the Berlin District, however here it is.

This person may have worked from the District office of Erfurt in Abteilung VIII - Beobachtung und Ermittlung (Observation and investigation).
