What you have there is a Volkspolizei (police) uniform to an Obermeister (effectively a senior NCO). The shoulder straps and collar patches are of the type used between 1980 and 1990, these are correct for the date of the jacket C/1 which is the first quarter of 1983, nice little set, what stampings are in the hats?
hope this helps

RE: Visor Hat and Ushanka
Originally posted by ddoeringThanks DHH. The saucer hat has Mdl 56 in it and a card with the name Jugl written in red pen. It also has 1925 to the rear and U to the front. The fur hat has NVA 57 1856 144 S on the plastic and a little white tag that has 57 on it.

Your DDR Polizei Visor Hat appears to be circa 1978. The fur hat was manufactured in 1975. The insignia on the fur hat you have is for an officer. The insignia for enlisted/NCO on a comparable fur hat would be the small round Staatswappen (East German State Seal). Nice items. If these are your first DDR articles be careful. You just might get the bug.Michael D. GALLAGHER

Slight correction Mike, most 'civil police' fur hats do come with a full cocade and wreath not just the small wappen, technically it should be the OR's variety though, as on the peaked cap, but even this doesn't hold true in all cases with senior nco's!!!!!.Last edited by David H; 07-07-2004, 10:19 AM.

RE: VOPO Correction
Hi Dave,
Oops. Ya learn something every day from this Forum.
Thanks for the correction and setting me straight.
Admittedly, I'm a little weak relevant the aspect of Polizei memorabilia. Got it - just don't have much reading material on it. Mistakenly thought they followed the same rules as the NVA/Stasi. Lesson learned.
Cheers,Michael D. GALLAGHER
