    DDR coat

Hi dear members of this forum!

I am seeking some advice for what will be my next "crazy" purchase: I fell in love with the DDR gray coat that you can see HERE, worn by the man in the right of the pic.

I am not a collectioner, I am not necessarily searching for something from this epoc, it could be a copy, as soon as it is well-made.

And this is where I need your knowledge:

    - Have you got any idea of where I could find this? (currently living in England, though French. CANNOT go in the ex-DDR and search on "black marckets")
    - Has this coat a specific name? (ie: when searching "DDR coat", I often find uniforms, or vests, or other stuffs that I don't want...)
    - What would be the easiest (if not the cheapest) way to find one of them?

I hope that your kind advice will help me!

Usually there are several on ebay.de. Try to use 'nva wintermantel' or 'nva mantel' in your search. You can get them for a few euros.

the uniforms on the picture you are showing are incorrect.

You can find a real winter coat on ebay.de but be prepared to pay 17E on shipping cost.

Indeed, it seems to offer the kind of coat I am searching for...

However, I've never been fond of the auction system... How much money do you think it would cost to won an auction like this?

It crucially depends on the size. Small sizes (44) go in the region of €20. 48s already higher, at a guess 30-40 depending. 52s are rarer and fetch more. I hardly ever see 56s... Do you know your own size?
A further question is whether the cloth is the rougher wool for soldiers or the smoother gabardine for officer (it is the latter in your photograph). The cut and general appearance is the same, but the officers ones are fully lined and there is obviously more tailoring. So on balance I would suggest that an €10-20 can sometimes be added for the officer variety.
Here you can see the full scale...

I share your feelings... overcoats are lovely!
