Is this a DDR exceptance stamp on Mosin Nagant?

Hi,

As you will be aware some Nagant's and other weapons (SKS) etc were supplied to the fledgeling DDR and NVA by Mother Russia, they were normally graded 1 2 or 3 grade with a number in a Triangle as a proof.

I've been looking to buy examples of these for some time and I think I have found one!

What do you think of this on a Nagant M91?

It's obviously not a Izmash (SP?) Mark because of the mahoosive Tula star!

Opinions very welcome, if it looks DDR I will pounce.

What is approximate value? This is from an expensive dealer and priced near £200 as a rough Russian, BUT might be worth it if DDR!

I thought that the Soviets refurbished the K98 and Sturmgewehr models captured during WWII for the NVA and KdA?

Yes, the triangle with the 1 in it is the stamp for an East German proofed rifle. I have a couple M91's and an M44 carbine with the same stamp. Just make sure it is a 1 and not a small arrow. I have a K98 that was used by the East German forces also. It does not have the proof but has a sun burst and other markings showing that it was refurbish by an East German factory. It also has Iraqi military markings on it also so at some time it was sold to them. I will try to post some photos.

The number within a triangle stamp is a DDR quality control stamp. The number 1 indicates a first class product, a number 2 second class, etc. The arrow within a triangle is a Soviet factory stamp.

The number within a shield inside the star (suburst) is a DDR Volkspolizei stamp. This police inspection stamp indicates the firearm was reworked at the VP Armory at Suhl. Some Kar.98k will be found with new "Mdi" marked barrels and force matched serial numbers. The DDR apparently sold some of these surplus carbines to Iraq and these will have Iraqui markings in addition to the German ones.
