    myddrcaps,

There were women who jumped with the GST. They would not have gone into the air force as there were no parchute forces in the air force end of the NVA.

    Regards,

    Gordon

Hey, this may be a bit of a newb question for you all, but I recently purchased a padded winter BDU set with a fur collar for $25 that is missing the top two pockets on the jacket. I think I read somewhere, that this would make a female's jacket, but I'm just looking for confirmation as to whether or not this is true. Either way, I'd say that I did pretty well for the price, even if it is slightly used.

        Genosse,
Does it button up the way Ladies clothing does and have slanting pockets on the waist with the inside pocket very low down? so not to get in the way of their boobies. If not then you have an early Male FDA Winter jacket.... which is still a nice piece to have recovered.

From the wearers view, is it buttoned right over left or left over right?
The first is female, the 2nd male.

I'm guessing it's the early FDA one. It has the low slanted pockets, but the internal pocket is up fairly high. It is buttoned left over right, thanks for identifying it.

                1. The 4 button pocket-less jacket was introduced in December 1973. The vest and white pullover were introduced at the same time. The vest had 4 buttons too and side pockets. It's unclear if the vest had flap pockets (I don't think it did).

I am hoping some one could answer a question for me. Before 1973 what did the female tunic look like? Any one have a description or a good photo of the front of a female tunic from around 1965 to 1970ish?

                  Gents,

I picked up a pair of female boots this week that would fit in with this discussion. They seem to be early as they have leather soles and stacked heels with rubber half-soles and heel pieces. The boots also have four strips of rubber added to the soles to give a better grip, so probably winter boots. The only discernable marking is the VEB marking on the heels. The boots are fully lined and there is a repair of a hole in the lining that was put there when the boots were made. The tops are scalloped and they have cloth pulls.

The boots appear early in that they have leather soles and early construction techniques like using a leather lining with a repaired hole to conserve leather. The boots are very well made.

I recall seeing photos of female policewomen wearing skirts and boots in various picture books and my later mdi regulaltions indicate they could be worn for parade or traffic duty as well as in winter. Any other times/duties that boots might have been worn for?

I found the DV-10/5 BEKLEIDUNGSVORSCHRIFT DER NVA 1965 at this webpage Historischer Bilderdienst $21 to download it.

So from 1965 to 1972 the tunics had three buttons and no pockets and after 1973 it was four buttons and no pockets.

Some new ones I found today:
A female PKE with removable winter Liner and a female ZV, both new.

Interflug Stewardess uniform on eBay. Sold for GBP 199.00 or $320.60 Canadian ... wow... it must be rare.

Who ever designed this uniform should have added another dozen buttons, it only has 21...
