Having viewed Ralph's MfS (Grenztruppen) tunic yesterday, I have posted a similar contribution - MfS (Grenztruppen) trousers. In Koenigs-Wusterhausen, near Berlin, I spent time with a former Grenztruppen officer and he did confirm to me that GT uniforms were stamped with the MfS identification. Read the following quote from him which I have translated...
"Yes, your acquaintances are correct, the visor comes from an officer passport/control unit of the MfS or from an officer of the intelligence service of the MfS who performed his service in the GT. The members of the MfS, who performed their service in the GT , were not placed under the command of the GT, but under the main department of intelligence service of the MfS; up until around 1970 these people were provided for by the clothing/equipment service of the Grenztruppen. From 1970 these authorities were performed by the B/S service of the main section 6 (passport and control unit) of the MfS. These people wore uniforms only on duty; in the normal day they wore civil.
Again for clarification, the members of passport and control units, the people who carried out the controls at border crossings, who performed service at the Brandenburg Tor in Berlin, were not under the Grenztruppen der DDR but under the MfS."
Please note that the trousers are code-dated 1972 as far as their manufacture.
