    Motorcycle helmet - ID

    Hi All

I found this helmet on an Internet site. Motorcycle helmet from the 50'ties. Does anyone has period photos of this type of helmet ? (I posted a similar one some days ago). Is it military issue and if so, what would be a reasonale market price ?

    thanks for your help

I owned 2 of these Helmets but this one looks different from the interior and ear flaps.

In Wilhelm Zoller's book "Kopfbedeckungen" on pages 176, 177 there is a photo of a VP helmet similar to yours, .

if I get time on Tuesday I'll scan/translate the page and post it.

I'm planing on scanning the hole book any ways, so it will give me practice using the program's.

I think there is a chance that this helmet may be older than from the 1950s and that it may be from the 1930s? I assume that there are no markings in it anywhere? Are there any buttons on it and is there anything stamped on the buttons? Cheers, Torsten.

PS: If you look at the 6th sample pic within this listing http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...STRK:MESELX:IT , you can actually see a very similar looking helmet being used by the very early GST in the 1950s ... but of course this does not necessarily mean that the helmet was made in the 1950s .... it may still have been made much earlier ....

            hi Torsten

i don't have the helmet (it's on an auction site), so I can't do a close inspection unfortunatly. So far I know it is not marked and it has one push button.

            Thx

Ask the seller if there are any markings on the pushbutton anywhere. Cheers, Torsten.

From zollers book, I didn't notice the air vent on the side when i first looked at the book. so its a different helmet ..

anyway.. I played with scanning the page, making it in to a PDF then copied the text into 'Babylon Translation' this is what popped out.

"The first motorbike helmet for the VP - here I called motorbike helmet - will be introduced in 1954 (Fig. 145 (A). This helmet can not deny its origin - to clearly he is reminiscent of the German plane helmet of 1. World War ii, the only in the middle of an additional Langswulst is added. In this form it is already with imperial eagle and Laubkranz of the police of the 3. Empire taken into account, before he front MdI for the Volkspolizei adapted and in the following versions will be manufactured:"

Not much info. The text looked much more impressive before I new what it said

I would also say its a earlier Helmet.

see this Thread for a fine Example of a early DDR Kradhelm
