Something to Do with the Wall

    Anybody ever see this?

    http://www.youtube.com/user/firstrun...14/ncazAp-WIRs

I watched it for the first time in like 18 years. Filmed in the summer of 1986 in Berlin during the 25th anniversary of the Berlin Wall. There are a few scuffles between Grenztruppen and West Berliners. It then jumps to the winter of 1989-90 as people are picking away at the wall.

Sorry guys. I rented the movie from YouTube for 24 hours (paid $2.99). That may be why it's blocked on the other side of the pond.

Unfortunately, that is the only place online I was able to find it to watch. Perhaps I can post some screen captures from YouTube.

I was able to see a short movie trailer of Something to Do with the Wall. As a consolation prize here is the link to an AFN Europe news report that I recorded the day after the Wall fell:

Interesting video...But that reminds me...Why were the Grenztruppen not immediately disbanded when the borders were opened? Well, at least I think they weren't immediately disbanded as I saw a video on youtube filmed in 1990 after the fall of the Wall, and border guards they interviewed were still in their uniform (Stabsdienst Nr.2 Sommer to be exact ).

I believe there were two reasons. The DDR was still a sovereign country until reunification with West German on 3 October 1990 and still had some limited border controls at least in the first few months after the fall of the wall. Grenztruppen were retained to help dismantle the wall and border fortifications as well ensure the orderly turn in and centralization of weapons and equipment.

                      Very ironic.

I was able to upload and watch. I did not see anything from 1986 and did not see a scuffle between Grenztruppen and West Berliners. All i saw was a very short clip on the initial fall, and then commentary 4 days later and commentary about souvenir hunters hacking away at the wall, resulting in the disappearance of it at a rate of several thousand tons an hour.

Did they maybe change the video?

Perhaps you saw the trailer? The documentary itself is 1 hour 30 minutes long.

I'm grabbing some screen captures on my lunch break and will post them after.

Grenztruppen telling two West Berlin males to stop throwing rocks at their checkpoint!

A few slabs of the wall were bombed the previous night and here are the East Germans repairing it.

Close-up of one of the soldiers.

A West Berlin boy walks up to the makeshift fence and starts pulling at it.

All the West Berliners and tourists taking photos and having a laugh at the Grenztruppen soldiers.

Somebody puts a sign up as if the Grenztruppen soldiers are in a zoo!

                            Another close-up.

East Germans putting the top part on the wall.

                            I will post more later......

Thanks for posting screen shots from the Trailer. it is definitely different from the one that came up after I clicked on the address line give in the first initial post. Guess it was changed.

                              Interesting screen shots.
