    General's Uniform

    All,
I thought you might be interested in this uniform I completed...The Schirmmütze must be one of the rarest as it was only in the regulations from 1959 to 1961. Mike

        Hi Mike,

        an absolutely stunning ensemble.

Thanks for sharing it with the Forum. You have got some wonderful and very rare examples in your collection, and this example certainly ranks at the top.

        Wow. Very impressive.

Guess it took some time to complete this set.

                    Subdued General Uniform

To be honest I never thought I would complete it...The subdued cockade on the hat is something I never thought I would even see. These insignia, that is the collar tabs and hat wreath, are all labeled in the Walther book under the price as Liebhaberpreis (LP) which means aficionado price. The tunic itself is dated 1958, DDR 1, and has what looks like MFN stamped inside...The "M" and "N" are clear but the middle letter is not. Mike

There are museums that should be madly jealous of that ensemble, if they even know enough to realize what you have. Wow.

Would that be supposed to mean
                        Ministerium für nationale Verteidigung?
Should it not be then MfNV or even MfnV? Unless it means something completely different.

I was thinking of MfNV, too... Perhaps one the 'f' is worn out?

Well I can't let Mike get away with having all the fun.

Here are some shots of the 2nd pattern subdued general's visor (i.e., Staatswappen cockade) used from 1962 - ??? (Walther says 1964, but there is evidence that these were used at least into the late 60's).

The piping is a battleship gray colored, twisted cord material. The side buttons are painted metal. The quality of the embroidery of the wreath is superb.
