Sport Badge - Is it East German?

    Hello Gents,

It’s been awhile since I have been on the WAF/DDR forum. In fact it's been so long that I don't even recognize half of the names of the members posting here .

Anyway, can anyone please tell me if this is East or West German? I have seen this badge before and but can’t recall to which nationality it belongs. I do know that it is an early piece with a pin and open catch style fastener, which I would date it from late 1950's to early 60's . I know that early DDR items were produced with out the Staatswappen however without the hammer and compass it's hard to tell by just looking.

    Thanks,
    John

Well lucky for you it is East German. Welcome back...
Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did. Quote - Sophie Scholl - White Rose resistance group

These are East German, were worn in the early 1950s, until about 1956, and are very desirable.

it is a sports badge for the youth, age 14-15, awarded 1951-1952.

                  Guys,

Thanks for the quick replies! I suspected it was East German but wasn't sure. I picked this up at a flea market outside San Antonio. I am amaze at all the East German stuff I have picked up out of there over the years. The best part about this badge is that the seller didn't know what it was either so I picked this little gem up for $2
