    DGP Greatcoat?

    Hello there,

I hope you can help me to identify the attached coat. Its a ten-button wooly coat.
    Stamped MdI II/61.

Please let me know what you think about it.

    Thanks and best regards
    Sebastian

    Stormleader,

There are 2 possibilities: DGP or Luftschutz.

By 1961 the KVP of course had long since been absorbed into the NVA. (The KVP also used gold-colored pebbled buttons on their tunics & greatcoats). Other Police organizations at this time wore either green (Vopo, Kasernierte Einheiten der VP) or dark blue (Feuerwehr, Trapo).

So a khaki-colored greatcoat, marked "MdI" and dated 1961, could only be DGP or perhaps Luftschutz.

      Thanks for your answer Rev.

So it only depends on the shoulder boards it is either DGP or Luftschutz.
Are collar tabs necessary or did they used the coat without tabs ?

As far as I know, there were no instances where collar tabs were worn with a coat.

        It's a lovely piece, btw

we have better experts here but I think my ones came only with Boards and no collars. sadly I sold them about 15 Years ago, so maybe my mind play's games with me.

Well, I do know that collar tabs were worn by Police personnel circa 1960/61 on at least some occasions. What I am sure not about is whether they worn for all occasions and by whom (all ranks or just officers, for example).

Off the top of my head, I would say you could just put on shoulder boards and it would be correct. But a little research may be in order before drawing a firm conclusion.

              Thanks for your opinions guys.

I researched a little bit, I found an interesting article on Ricos Blog

              http://uniformen-gt.blogspot.com/201...enzdienst.html

It seems that it was possible to wear collar tabs untill early 1961. (for DGP)

I have not found something about Luftschutz...
