Need your help with three Visors

    Hello,

Because of some personal Problems I have to sell some parts of my collection

I need your help to find a fair price for the following 3 Visor caps.

    MfS, Artillery and Air Defense.
Unfortunately the piping was cut down on the first 2 Visors (MfS and Artillery)

Could you guys please have a look and tell me what you think about it?

Thanks in advance and best regards
    Sebastian

Sadly, by phasing out the Branch Piping in the Army, they often cut the Piping and added a white cord to complete it as they didn't had enough white ones to complete every officers outfit. So there is no problem with them, they just did it. They didn't thought about collectors in the future, it was only a Cap for them. I got about 600 Leather Belts from the DEFA with Hitler Youth Buckles from the Movie "Der kleine Trompeter" and they allway's drilled 3 holes in them, put a mole on the front and filled it with liquid plastic to get HJ ones. I still have lots of KVP and Kadet Buckles, but they're worth only their history.

As Nico has mentioned, after 1961 colored piping on headgear and tunics was (often) shaved down and covered with white material. Occasionally they applied the white material directly over the unshaved piping.

Strictly speaking, your hats should still have the white material over the piping to be correct - to my knowledge hats were not worn with exposed, shaved down piping. (What would be the point?) Someone has removed the material from your hats so they are not REALLY as the NVA would have worn them.

Don't despair, however. In my opinion they're still desirable (although not as desirable as untouched hats of course) as collectibles.

I would bet, somebody removed it to get them more interesting, but sometimes the ruin stuff by that. It's like grandma polishing the old silver coins, to get them nice and shiny by removing the patina.

Nico, you are spot on! Yes, it's nice to see that colored piping. But if it's not something that actually would have been worn, then the value is diminished.
