Iannima, I believe the device on the front sight was called "Zusatzvisier zum Nachtschiessen" I have a small, nine page booklet on this device. It is also discussed on pages 28-30 of my 1972 dated MPi-KM and KMS manual. The device that clips on the front sight is also accompanied by a flip up device that clips onto the rear sight as well. I have some good close up pictures of both the front and rear night sights attached to my rifle but I don't have a clue how to post on this sight. The one on his MPi-K must be an early version as the main body of the device sits very low, near the barrel. It also has a very square, boxy appearance as compared to the more rounded appearance of the set I have. All the ones I have seen for sale mimic my style. That was a good eye on your part to notice the early style bayonet on his belt, I completely missed that somehow. Anyway, sorry to stear the thread away from your pictures, thank you for posting them!

Was the Blumentarn just for Grenzers or did the other branches of the NVA wear as well?

            thanks,
            Jimmy

It was for everybody. I have seen the air force too wearing Blumentarn.
