Without the shoulder boards, they are going for about 25.00. This guy who is selling these in this Ebay link is a great guy.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

Shoulder boards for this waffenfarbe I have gotten off of Ebay for between 6 and 18 usd for a basic EM variety. Fred may have these as well. You will also need the shoulder board buttons and string(sold as a set from this same guy for about 1 usd per set).

This is just one of several sources.

    Thanks

        Shoulder Boards...

This guy routinely has East German FJ boards for 6 or 8 usd. This is the cheapest I have seen this waffenfarbe for sale anywhere.

        http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...241326877&rd=1

Maybe you could email him about this.

        Thanks

Freds FJ tunics come with everything except the shoulder boards.

The collar tabs and buttons are included and attached.

When you buy the shoulder boards, you will need to buy the shoulder board buttons and string that attaches the shoulder board to the tunic. If you ask, he might throw in the buttons and strings if you buy the shoulder boards.

            excellent guy to deal with

            Hi Paul,
Fred Geissler (the ebay trader selling the tunic) can get the boards as well...He is an excellent guy to deal with, totally decent and will go the extra mile for you (my experience anyway)
            Cheers,
            Dave

Has anyone else notice that Fred's prices have doubled basicly overnight? He use to sell his odd and smaller size tunics for $9.99, less then 6mo ago and now they are all selling for $24.99. However, you are right about Fred.. he will go the extra mile for a customer.

I know this is going to come as a shock to everyone, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and the East German "Cloth" memorabilia is beginning to run out - even the Minty unisued stuff.

They went through 4 - count'em, 4 documented/verified uniform changes between 56 and 89. For the most part, they turned the uniforms back in upon departure from service, and the uniforms were re-issued.....again-and again-and again, until they literally wore out. Also, in early 90, in Berlin, a lot of the stuff that was being sold at the Reichstag, Brandenburg Tour, Checkpoint Charlie, 17 Juni Strasse and Potsdamer Platz was confiscated by the German Polizei, and then burned. Perhaps scenes similar to this occurred elsewhere throughout East Germany. Anyway, the "Well" will one day run dry. As the cloth memorabilia becomes less available, the prices are going to reflect this - even the unisued cloth.

Also, despite what the TR Collector's would have us believe, there is a growing interest in the DDR stuff, and that too is driving up the prices - the old adage of supply and demand.

Fred is one of the best ones out there, but he is pricey when compared to what one can find on some items. His FJ tunics were 9.99 for the smaller sizes and 24.99 for the larger. While they did double in price his FJ tunic is still a great buy. I think his FJ EM boards are about 15 or 18 usd.

He has great customer service and quick/reliable delivery. I started collecting wtih him. Definatly a great guy. He will actually take the time to talk with you on the phone and answer any questions he can. I remember spending two hours on the phone on one occasion. Not many people care so much to take such time with their customers.

                    RE: East Meets West

Fred GEISSLER is a "Class Act". Much of what he sells is merchandise that he actually personally procured himself in Germany from his various sources. He makes at least one trip if not more to Germany, annually. For the beginning collector, he is a fantastic and very reasonable source. For the serious collector, if you are missing an item needed to complete a specific part of your collection, he is a viable option. Let him know what you need, and on one of his trips abroad, he will endeavor to secure it for you.

                      Paul,

I'm not a collector as such as I only try to get my kit together I had in the army (except the T-72 as I can't stretch to the £20,000-£25,000). So you might not like the foolowing "as we did it" advise....

If you want an "authentic" shoulderboard fitting, use a matchstick to secure the button or any string you can find. The last resort was a safety pin!

                        Hi Dag,

I presume to be really authentic, these would have to be East German pre-November 1989 "Matchsticks?

I like it. The way it was really done. Dag, where were you six months ago?

                          Shoulder Board Fasteners

I love when an old thread resurfaces. "Matchsticks" You got to love the ingenuity and field craft of a soldier. As long as we are on the subject of shoulder board fittings, when did these fasteners become obsolete? They seem to be more practical then a lace, matchstick or safety pin.

Hi Dag, welcome to the forum! Like Michael said, I think you will find this forum a little more academic then the other. I look forward to learning from you!

I know that the discussion or information from this thread about dealers might be dated coming from me...but there is a DDR dealer from North Carolina by the name of Bob Gowen who can assist in tunics and other DDR items...

                              John,

I have a pair of tose and was informed by a Oberstleotnant that these are for shoulderboards from Major upwards because of the thickness. Unfortunately, he could not tell me if they became obsolete at some point but he wore them until "the end".

Maybe someone else has more detailed info?
