    KMO-Recently realized auction prices

    Gentlemen,

Since there seems to always be a lot of interest in KMOs, I thought that I would post pictures, and realized prices, on items recently sold at auction in Germany. First up a KMO complete with the with IS, mappe and document. The KMO and IS were said to have been 333 marked. There were no pictures of the backs of the KMO or the IS in the auction. Sold at Euros 1512.00, plus 18% commission E 272.18, plus shipping and handling approx. E 30.00 for a total of E 1714.16. At todays exchange rate that equals US$2384.09. I consider this a very reasonable price from what I have sen them go for in the past.

    Regards,

    Gordon

The cover of the KMO mappe. This the type used from 1982-89.

Gordon - I agree that the KMO medal and document together sold for a good price...and I think it all comes down to whose name or organization is on the document...

They are both way out of my current price range for DDR material but very nice none the less, and a great addition to the collections of those who purchased them.

dear Ralph, seeing as you commented the price is this high because of the name,

who is this Wera Lassan, her(assuming its a her) name doesn't sound german!

              sgtmeat,

I think perhaps there is some misunderstanding here. Ralph said it was a good price, not a high price. I considered it a reasonable price and actually on the low side for what these items have sold for in the past. Finding one complete with the mappe and document is getting very hard to do.
Werra Lassen does not show up in "WER WAR WER IN DER DDR" so she will probably be hard to research. Since this mappe was presented as an anniversary gift she could be a party member that is being recognized for her good work etc.

              Regards,

              Gordon

Gordon thanks for your follow up comments...appreciated.

SGTMEAT - I think the reason for the low price was because of the name, the person was not as well known like other former DDR leaders such as MfS Minister Erich Mielke who was awarded seven KMOs during his career. And his KMO award documents alone can cost a thousand dollars/euros without the medal.
