I had seen it too but have refrained from ordering it yet... The issue is that published by the same Motorbuch Verlag, with the same title and with the same author being one of three, there is another book which I already possess, with a black and white photograph on a white cover. I do wonder whether this is just a second edition of the same work and how much updates/changes there have been. I had bought the book in order to aid my modelling enterprises, but it was not much use in that respect, as it has lots of technical diagrams of details that are not included in the standard 1:35 scale models ordinarily available. At least the ones I have come across, would not allow one to reproduce the auto-loader of a T72, the gearbox arrangement or the internal details of the breech of the gun. Quite a lot of the book I possess is dedicated to such details with diagrams that look like they have been lifted from the relevant maintenance manual. It should also be mentioned that without a very sound knowledge of technical German, the book quickly becomes impenetrable. So I would want to leaf through the new one before ordering, to check how much it repeats the earlier one.
It is a bit of a shame that because of the existence of this earlier book, Wilfried Kopenhagen deliberately avoided discussing the combat tanks in his work "die Landstreikräfte der NVA", published by the same firm, as he says in the preface. I always found that Kopenhagen provided for me the right balance of technical detail and historical narrative, which I struggled to find in the book "Kampfpanzer der NVA".

The 'Panzer'-Series started by W Spielberger many many years ago has never been intended to be for modellers or for those who are interested in any history other than the technical development of the specific tank covered.
The first volume was released in the early 70ies and the first issue of Kampfpanzer der NVA in 1996 (Volume 16) "closed a previous gap in the history of German tank units" (taken from back cover and translated).
Whilst it does not give much insight or material for the modeller, the books are invaluable for those restoring a real one!
So, someone who is looking for a coffee-table book without any technical German will not be overly exited.
Btw, Kopenhagen is in a totally different league, i.e. he is a journalist who writes books (and often gets things wrong as he does not research properly, especially in the technical field).

Here is an update: On the publishers website is a general description of content and it seems to be expanded by wheeled and tracked APC and also 'specialised vehicles (recovery tanks).

The expansion is most likely based on the small, booklet-style "Typenkompass"-series from the same publisher. For the price advertised I do not expect much information of the technically minded who likes to go beyond more or less new pics..
