Hello all - I want to let you all know that Klaus Feder has been working on another DDR book. The title of his upcoming book is "Orders of the NVA" and the planned release is April 2011. This book is going to be about DDR/NVA award documents and will not be about NVA medals. I hope to have more information as the date gets closer.

Ralph,
Thanks for the update on this book. From the page displayed with the cover illustration this book looks more like a revised edition of his earlier book with coloured pictures rather than a book just of award documents. I wonder with the purchase prices and the cost to ship it to North America if there is enough new information in the book to make it worth while purchasing if you already have his earlier book? I guess one would have to buy it to find that out.
Regards,
Gordon

Hello all - My initial comparison of Feder's first book he wrote back in 1994 (17 years ago) with his latest release, I can say that his latest book goes into a lot more depth on a few of the medals and documents he covered in the 1994 book. His second book goes a step further and provides detailed information on some of the DDR medals. The information in Feder's 1994 book provided a snap shot of a lot of NVA medals, whereas his latest book goes into depth on a few medals, along with showing some diagrams of test medals. Additionally, Feder illustrates the time period changes of some award documents, including the Scharnhorst. Further some of the others, he combined the time period of the NVA and MfS documents
With what I have seen so far, I can see Feder coming out with more updated DDR books in the future, which when combined together will surpass his 1994 book.Somebody, after all, had to make a start. Gordon - Thanks for your follow up questions. Bottom line, Feder's latest book is worth having as a reference book. His latest book has 272 pages and there is discussion and illustrates of at least five different medals and their documents. Additionally, Feder has a section related to concepts and ideas of some of the medals discussed in the book. Lastly, Feder has a section (three pages) related to the shoulder boards and neck clasp concept drawings for the Marshall of the DDR.Somebody, after all, had to make a start.
