Brotbeutel, kochgeschirr und granatentasche

Hallo Genosse!

Me and a friend are about to complete a basic soldier kampfanzug. Since we are going to use the AK-74, it is in the timeperiod after that came into use.
However, we don't know much about the canteen equipment or how or when the brotbeutel was used.
We can't find any pictures of the grenade-bag (granatentasche) in use, so does anyone know how often it was used also?

Can someone enlighten us?

Normally they didn't had the Brotbeutel on the Standard Uniform, they were used only ba ZV and Kampfgruppen. The Handgranatentasche was a UTV Item, what means it was for use after 1986 and authorised in a Combat situation, so not for normal wear. Most of the UTV Equipment wasn't issued to the normal NVA, the first Troops I know were MfS Units. They also got the US Style NBC Suit with Shoulder Boards. I don't have the regulation by the hand at the moment, but I think some comrades have enough pics to post.

look up images of the NVA, you will find the look you need, also do a search on the this Progressive People's Forum you will find much of interest.

Hi, and thanks for the answers.

does anyone know a website/document/book where I can read how the uniform was supposed to be worn, used, kept in order and so on? I know I can just look at pictures of actual NVA troops, but it would be very interesting to read some of the official rules inside the NVA. (reading German is not an issue)

I'm new at collecting DDR stuff, so thats why I may ask of something which you may take for granted

Sebastian,
the best is the Dress Regulation, but they're hard to find and expensive.
I plan to make reprints of them for the collectors, but because of the many colour Plates its also not that cheap. I also plan to repro the MfS regulation.
