Some MFS items and visors for enjoyment.

Here's some nice items I was lucky enough to stumble across for a really good deal. I really like the visors, they have awesome shape! One is a BG officer and one is a Army officer.

Luke - Thanks for taking the time to post some items from your collection. Is there any ink stamped markings or tags in the tunic? How many inner pockets does it have? And what are your thoughts with the STASI book?

              Thanks...

I especially love the saddle-shaped visor!

                  Mike and Olivyaya,

The inside markings are as follows,

                  Mfs sg 48
                  1850 II/X

They are above the only inside pocket present.
I think it's cool that it's a later produced dark collar jacket with older style tabs and MFS marked! The tabs are also hand stitched on as well. I'll post inside pics this afternoon when I have time.

                    Mike,

I'm not sure about the book though I'll post more pics later today. It has a red cover with the words " proletarier aller lander vereingt euch" with a SED logo on the front. I can't say for sure if its tied to the tunic and hat, but judging from the photo, I don't think he would fit in a size 48 jacket.

                    Later, Luke.

                          Eastgermansks .....

Interesting post. You "Hit" on a little known secret not known to a lot of DDR/NVA collectors. The 1968 NVA Visor Hat was uniquely of better quality and appearance than most open-collar hats produced prior or after that year.

The color was of a much more "Rich" in appearance characteristic in addition to the hat having a saddle shape. It also was produced of a higher thread count tha the other hats. 1968 was a tumultuous year politically, (invasion of Czechoslavakia) and perhaps that in some form or fashion, might have accounted for the better quality in that one year. Who knows .......

While it was true if you shop around a bit, you can find a nice saddle shape Visor Hat produced in years other than 68, they are exceptions rather than the rule, and they are of less quality (Thread Count) and their color is of a much lighter gray.

Here, a comparison with a 1977 hat of similar style. 1968 hat is on the left.
Despite both having a saddle shape, the 68 is still nicer, having that nice green hue to the gray, as well as more thread count which can be discerned in the second photo.
