    Stern der Voelkerfreundschaft

And while I was taking pics I thought someone would enjoy this nice set, too.
This is the first of these I have seen outside the books.

    Merry x-mas

A very nice medal, is this one in your collection? Do you have any background on the recipient Fritz Otto? I recall that there was a Fritz Otto who was killed in 1949 while serving as Border Guard.

Harry - I see you have been visiting your bunker...

Your star appears to be an earlier production medal...

          Kevin,
Yes, the set is from my collection. Unfortunately, I have no other info on this Fritz Otto, but since the award was made in 1982 I doubt it has something to do with the killed soldier.
There is a fellow I know, ex NVA officer, who knows god and the world, from time to time he has some really nice items. For example a complete set of medals from one man incl. Karl-Marx-Orden, all VVOs plus Spange (double award of the bronze VVO in the 50s, highly unusual) plus Friedensmedal of the FDJ, and all with the award documents. Cost me a few pennies but well worth the money.
          Best wishes

Ralph - Bunker is a nice word for it, my wife calls has another term for it

The award was made in 1982, but the star itself could be older, I agree.

Recently I obtained a lot of an MfS Oberleutnant who died in the early 60s, he was fighting in the Spanish Civil War and later inmate in a KZ, these are really old items!

Harry - I am sure your star is older and mostly produced in the early to mid 1970s. I have seen another star like yours with document that has that color to it.

Your star may even have some silver content even though it may not be content stamped on the back.

                SirHarry1,

Anther interest medal and document. Hard to tell if the star is just dark from age or if there is some silver content that has caused it to tarnish. The case may be the answer here. It looks as though it is a later type case which would fit with the 1982 dated document. Thanks very much for posting it.

                Regards,

                Gordon

There is a simple way to determine if the star is an early production or later production. The type of pin and position of the pin on the reverse will disclose which.

                    Michael,

I agree but from the picture shown this can not be determined and that is all we have to go on.

Guess I misunderstood - I thought the Star and certificate were part of SirHarry1's private collection.

                        Hi Michael and Gordon,

Here is a pic of the reverse of the star, perhaps that helps you to determine the age. By the way, all these are from my collection.

                        Have a great weekend

                          SirHarry1,

The catch on the star appears to be of the first type. IE ball type. The small ribbon bar uses the last type catch used. IE last half of the 80s. Thanks for the pictures. Always interesting to see what is in other peoples collection.

                          Regards,

Star has silver content and was produced between 1959 -72.
