    Where are you from?

Might be interesting to see what nationalities you all are? Who is frequenting this forum? For example, I find it interesting that there are a good number of Dutch people around, but I do not recall anyone Belgian ever coming here ... a couple from Italy, but hardly anyone from France or Spain ... why is that?

Anyhow, might be an interesting thread starting up here .. Cheers, Torsten.

PS: I already apologise to anyone who is not covered by the above poll options, but I am afraid that there are only 10 possible choices to include ... ;-(

      Torsten,

As you know I'm from the U.S.

It's kind of interesting, it seems like a surplus of NVA collectors hail from Ohio.

Interesting thread for Sociologists! I myself have been wondering too why there are that many Dutch collectors here. We are known for our trading capacities but collecting is an opposite activity

I think a raison why there aren't many people from Spain, France, Belgium (partitially) and Italy etc could be the fact that they don't speak English very well. I notice that every time I go on vacation Of course there are exeptions!!

On the other hand by saying that I can't explain why there for example aren't many Swedish people because they are know for speaking languages fluently.

It is PURELY my guess but I would say that Dutch dealers bought quite a lot of DDR stuff early on, at the time when it was priced by weight. This naturally means that the militaria scene in Holland has seen quite a few of these items giving plenty of opportunity for people to develop an interest.
I would maintain that it is still the case that the best place to find NVA material (even vehicles) outside of Germany, is Holland. And anybody who has visited Frank Van Gelder's warehouse will know what I mean ...
It is sad that I no longer have access to that

                Hi there,

I´m from Spain. Yes, those who won the Football World Cup Championship. Remember?

There are some spanish collectors, who for some "reason" speak English without making such mistakes!!

Regards from Spain. If you know France, keep driving to the South, and sooner or later, there we are.

It´easy to recognize us, we´re all short, dark skin and dress up like "Torero Ole´"

                Best regards,
                Adolph.

Unless of course you drive a bit further to the east and then you find MY compatriots... we are equally short and dark skinned but we dress differently and cry "mamma mia!" all the time!
Of course I am cheating here, as my passport is one thing, and my abode another ...

Don't bring up the World Cup again. We (the guys with heads that look like a gouda cheese) haven't recovered from our defeat.

I have no doubt that your English is better than mine. But I noticed that the times I have been in Spain it was hard to communicate with most people in English (or French and German).. But the people are very friendly, the countryside is great and the food is delicious. That's why I go there almost each year and found it on the map below France.

Hi Adolph, I was mostly refering to DDR collectors when discussing the lack of Spanish and other nationalities on this DDR forum. I know there are plenty of Spanish, Belgian, etc. collectors elsewhere on WAF, just not many here on the DDR forum and that is what I find a little puzzling. As there are a good number of collectors from those nations elsewhere on WAF, then I do not think that this lack of numbers here can solely be put down to languague difficulties. Cheers, Torsten.

                        Hi again,

There´s no problem at all. I´m not taking it personal. It was some kind of joke "let´s say this" that we "Spaniards" say when people/tourists say/think when refering where is Spain, or what do they speak there?

                        Adios amigos,

                        Adolph.

I have over 50 years experience and still don't know English well, but being from Virginia I'm fluent in Southern, ya all.

My German is down right miserable, but I still try to participate in a couple of German language forums that are in my area of NVA collecting interests. So I can relate to someone who may have trouble communicating on this forum in English.

                            Genosse,

contrary to popular belief, Southern is actually a language derived from English

                              I´m born in East-Germany, I´m living in West-Germany -so I am a WOSSI

                              I voted for East-Germany.
Kevin, it doesn´t matter. My German is miserable too...
                              But my Saxonian-slang is great!
