    A Rare Dark Collar Tunic

Here is one to put the cat amongst the pigeons! and a rare bird as well.
Every now and then in DDR collecting you get one of those items that flies in the face of all reason and this is one of those.
A 1979... yes 1979 (F) dated dark collar OR's tunic, technically it shouldn't exist. It has the same construction traits as an open tunic and is unissued.
I love a good mystery! enjoy..

I'll see if I can do some more, the underside of the collar is plain field grey and no zig-zag.

I remember that when Dave and I last met in March he was telling me about such tunics . As it happens I was then wearing my small contribution to such a collection of anomalies: a 1976 dated DARK collar gabardine tunic. Again theoretically it should not exist... but it certainly does ... and I love it!

Fake mistake? The value of dark collar tunics sure is an invitation to produce them. Materials, machinery and know how is readily available, so why not consider it a high probability?

This site (http://nva.4mg.com/) helps me get an idea of prices as well as what is being reproduced.

Viktor, do you have access to information that I don't have? Have you heard that women are now driven mad with desire at the sight (and smell) of a dark collar, color piped tunic?

Thank God I found a beautiful woman that knows all about my militaria collecting sickness...and married me anyway!

                        .

I must say this is one of those rare occasions where authenticity isn't an issue. And to be fair I am not bad on uniforms and have a bit of experience with them. This one was part of a bulk buy of Dark Collar tunics I made in 1993 and has been packed away for 16 years with his chums, until I started to sort them out towards the end of last year.

                          Hi Dave,

By no means was it my intention to question your knowledge on uniforms. I respect your expertise and would never question you. I only wanted to stress the possibility that some uniforms as well as many other east german items being offered as genuine are repros.

Fortunatly, I understand that german sellers are requiered by law to make the distinction. The site which I posted does so and is a great way to find out what is being produced today. Sometimes, the only difference I can make out between a genuine and a repro is the fact that one seems newer.

erovi, You a perfectly correct there are a lot of repros out there. As for the German law requiring a distinction between real and repro, well I must say I am a little sceptical on that one working too well.

ps. never worry about questioning it is healthy!!

Does this qualify for the "Understatement of the year" award?
