Was this an ebay steal , the DDR Helmet and uniform collectors missed , or not ?

Today ended an ebay listing , containing a polizei uniform , with a tschako
and what looks like the M54 helmet , sold for 1369,- euros .
The seller was asked if he wanted to sell the helmet seperate for 1200,- euros , he refused .
Now , I'm not a uniform or helmet collector , but I think if this was the real thing , the buyer has a bargain .

The link for the ebay listing.

If the Shako and the Helmet is original, I would say the seller is biting his ass for a while.

If I were the type who bid on such rarities, I'd have a certain reluctance to chase a lot like this when the seller only gives that one photo. I would think A LOT more details would be in order on this one.

Still, if it is indeed genuine, what a payoff on the gamble.

If my translation is correct, the description says this uniform is related to a Film. I would think this implies that it is a reproduction or something like that.

I must say I'm not too keen on this one and didn't bid on it, don't like the look of the tunic, looks like a later one buttoned up, helmet decal looks like one of the copies, not too keen on the shako or the pouches either. prime example of better pictures needed

Although no DDR collector I also followed this auction...

...and yes, the stile of the auction is a bit strange.

When it is a real thing and the seller knows this he would have taken some more pictures....
Putting in only one picture and writing down that it comes from a movie company indicates that the seller knows that this set is not 100% authentic ...

So my thought is that he knows that it is not 100% o.k. but does not want to write it down clearly ...so he tells nothing. If the buyer is not satisfied it is his own problem as the seller gives no promise of 100% autehnticity...

Very astute observations by all. I suspect, at the end of the day, there is going to be a very disappointed buyer.

Thanks for all the comments .
I only have one thing to add to the comments , that this uniform came from a film company does not necessarily mean that it's fake .
In the early nineties lots of very good and original SS unifoms , hats and visors where found at Statski Film in Prague .

                  Gents,

I set a low limit to bid on this uniform and didn't expect to win. I certainly wouldn't have paid that price, as others have said, on one photo. I was really curious about why the helmet was basically buried under some other things. A rare item like the helmet should be front-and-centre in the photograph.

                  Regards,

                  Gordon

just a thought.. but if you look at the sellers feedback, there are some nicknames from people who mostly bid on military related things..so the seller maybe has a little to do with militaria and knew what he had..a not authentic uniform lot BUT!!..on the other hand.. I would have expected, the DDR had at least enough uniforms in stock (maybe not in the early days but later some early left over Uniforms,Helmets etc.) that they didnt have to reproduce a M54.... and I cannot really remember having seen any DDR Movie with a M54 in wear.... maybe the begining of M54 fakes???..wonder why that not had happend earlier yet anyway.

I wouldn't say it was steal. The information was there. The items came from a film studio, and the seller clearly stated that there where no guarantees. A very bad gamble on the buyers side.
