The only green badge that I have that is related to parachute jumping in the DDR is plastic has an open parachute on top of the world on the right and DDR 1966 in the left. I also have a version in red. They are for the 8th Parachuting World Championship held in Leipzig in 1966.

A photo is worth a thousand words. According to Klaus Feder these embroidered NVA parachute badges were made after 1990. They are based on the 1967-90 NVA para badge. There are at least three types, black badge on olive cloth, colored badge on olive cloth and colored badge on blue cloth.

According to a Chute and Dagger article these of course were never authorized, but were ordered by members of the Bundeswehr who had jumped with the NVA prior to unification. The well known firm Kalka in Augsburg produced these badges. In addition to the badges mentioned by Feder, this article shows three other variants of this badge which are full color on Camo, black on Camo and a variation of full color on Camo.

I've talked to friends in the Bundeswehr who say it's unlikely that these were ever worn on the Bundeswehr uniform. So it possible they were ordered and/or worn by some of the 74 parachutists from 12 western countries who who took part in the last parachute jump with the 40th Air Assault Regiment in September 1990.

I have three examples of these badges. Two are black on olive and one is full color on olive. I'm still looking for the blue background variant. The backs of all three are a stiff black cloth.

To answer your question, I believe this is an original.

Thanks for the informative data on the post 1990 NVA parachutist cloth patch Kevin.

And I wish you the best of luck on locating the blue background example thereby completing your collection.

Yes, this is a post-1990 Bundeswehr badge and I can tell you from personal experience several German parachutists whom I jumped with in Europe wore it, at lest in 1992. Whether it was authorized or not, I can't say.
