My best catch this year in between writing was acquiring another MfS grouping of a senior MfS officer...

And . . . . . do we get to learn more, and perhaps get a sneak peek?

One of my 2009 catch of the year is probably not so special for you guys on the forum, because it's a civilian item. However, I have to say that I really like to have a new Ampelmännchen in my Berlin collection.

                WRONG

Some of the DDR Civilian articles of memorabilia are treasure troves.

Your Ampelmännchen light fixture is one such example. It is an excellant addition to any collection. I've always been an Ampelmännchen from the very first trip to East Berlin when I first saw and noticed the difference in their pedestrian crossing lights.

                You did well in 2009.

The popular Ampelmännchen survived the year 1989.

Some weeks ago I have seen a new pedestrian crossing light in my town with Ampelmännchen.

Mike - The collection in my hands now was owned by a senior MfS officer who began is career as a leader in the K5 and he retired from the MfS in the 1960s

                        Ralph,

Sounds like it is going to consist of some very quality "Minty" awards and decorations as well as very nicely produced supporting documents.

                            Hi Bryan,

This traffic light is one of my dreams, with border signs. I just hope 2010 will make these dreams true.

For me, best of 2009 in DDR is easy : I am just beginning my collection of DDR orders and medals. So, everything is the best...

                            Cheers.

                            Ch.

2009 was a very slow year for me.

Firstly, articles of DDR memorabilia I'm trying to collect are through attrition, fewer in number.
Secondly, the Euro at present is slamming the US Dollar fiercely.

The other side of the coin .....

I have always endeavored to focus my collecting with a goal in mind. To that end, 2009 was a very fruitful year indeed.

I succeeded in closing out two heretofore areas of collecting that for a very long time have been pending closure.

                              a). Color-piped Officer Visor Hats
b). Both Silver Class Bluecher Awards.

The Pioneer Color-piped Officer Visor Hat with Bull's Eye Insignia is a milestone for me in my collecting efforts. It's acquisition this year was one of my most costly endeavors of all time, considering what previous acquired examples cost me to acquire in the past. But it was worth it from the aspect that it completed the set and I now have examples of all of the NVA Land Units inclusive of amour; artillery; infantry, rear services, signals; and now finally, pioneer.

The silver Bluecher Medallion compliments the silver Bluecher Order I already had, and most importantly, completes that set.

So ..... two goals set very early on, this year were accomplished.

Now, if you will excuse me, I think I will go pour myself a glass of 21 year old single malt and enjoy a nice Hoyo De Monterrey Excalibur 1066 robusto cigar.

Merry Christmas everyone, and here's a toast to successful completion of each and everyone of your personal goals, too. Prost .....
