DDR flags/banners etc.

With the exception of small sizes (I own one 40cm. x 60 cm. e.g. http://cgi.ebay.de/DDR-Fahne-Flagge-...item335867ba7a) genuine DDR flags are not printed but sewn. That includes the central disc with the Staawappen. It is often noticeable that it never sits quite straight. I have seen such flags for sale at touristy places in Berlin like checkpoint Charlie etc. but they are actually genuine ones. It is just that DDR production was SOOOO massive that it will be some time before they run out...

They also sell the Sturm Fakes.

Thanks for the positive reassurance Torsten This is what we like to hear.

My brother-in-law and I are back in Berlin again next year (5 more days)... sometime earlier than November, but not sure exactly when just yet.

I notice many folks from the DDR forum meet up there every now and then... I'll post when we're going and keep a look out on here for anyone Berlin bound.

This year we went from 7 - 11 Nov. and ended up right at the front/centre of the Brandenburg Gate at the Mauerfall party... A Fantastic night!

Jason, let me know when you're coming. Maybe we meet at McNair Museum.

Hi Nico,

Would you believe this:

For our last visit (7-11 Nov. this year), I made a list of all places of interest that I could possibly think of. Now, due to my brother-in-law's new found interest in the DDR, I mentioned to him that upon viewing a thread on here, I had come across a shop in Schöneberg, that specialised in DDR militaria.
This was put into our itinerary forthwith, so one morning (having seen the address in the thread) we made our way there to seek it out, chancing that it may be open.
After pacing up and down the street a few times, and speaking to a few folks who knew nothing of the area, we struck upon one person, who told us what we needed to know... "I'm sorry" he said... "The shop has not been there for the last two years".

Silly me hadn't looked at the date on that earlier thread, or made enquiries before we set off

We then drowned our sorrows in a cup of coffee and ate a pastry, sat in a cafe opposite!

I'll definately let you know the dates of our 2010 trip Nico

Okay genossen, I recent came across this supposedly 'East german May day Banner' on a website for very cheap, and I was wondering if anyone has any information regarding its manufacture or use. They give no information about its deimensions or markings. Help?

I looks like what they say it is, they were normally flown from lamposts/ street poles etc. for may day parades. If it is cheap I'd jump on it...

Hmmm, a Shop in Schöneberg, sounds like me.
sadly the basement got wet after they stopped pumping the ground water for the big Train stations construction site, so I had a basement swimming pool in my shop. I'll plan to get a new one, but it cost's a lot of money what I don't have in the moment. In january I have to get my new website fixed but it's hard to find what I want. Maybe at the end of jan or beginnig feb. i'll got it. www.berlin-military.com

P.S.: A visit with a stand at Beltring is planned for 2010 and also at the Greater Dorset Steam Festival. No problem to bring ordered stuff to the events.
